Registration Required For Those Looking To Seal Criminal Records

The Las Vegas Municipal Court and Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada are working together to seal the criminal records of individuals looking for a fresh start.
Those with criminal records face a multitude of challenges that may hinder or prevent them from securing employment and housing. Through the Clean Slate program, those with criminal records with Las Vegas Municipal Court have the opportunity to have their records sealed.
Those interested must register with the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada in May to qualify to go before a judge on Aug. 18. To learn about qualifications and to register email [email protected], call 702.386.1070, option eight, or meet with an advocate at 725 E. Charleston Blvd. Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition, the program will make accommodations to assist Spanish-language speakers.
Those convicted of crimes against children, felony DUIs, sexual offenses, home invasion with a deadly weapon, burglary, or a crime of violence are ineligible. Those with misdemeanor charges are eligible for the program if they meet the state-set waiting period for records sealing for their particular conviction.
Upon receipt of the registration packets from Legal Aid, the Las Vegas Municipal Court and the City of Las Vegas City Attorney’s Office Criminal Division will begin the process. In August, a judge and staff from Municipal Court will sign the orders to seal the records.
Las Vegas Municipal Court and Legal Aid will work with anyone eligible for records sealing, even if they do not register for this opportunity. Anyone who meets the statutory requirements is allowed to petition the appropriate court to have their records sealed.
